REGISTRATION

How does the REGISTRATION process work?

  • Tuition and registration information can be found on the website

  • Prior to the start of the school year, detailed registration forms will be sent for each family and student.

    • ONE Registration Form must be completed per household to include emergency contact information and other logistical information.

  • Every student must have a completed Student Information Form for each of the following on file prior to the first day of drop-off Hebrew School.

What does PSJC Hebrew School Cost?

  • Tuition information can be found on the registration page on the website. There is an additional cost for late registration and an administrative fee for anyone who registers less than a week before the start of the program.

  • Following the completion of your registration form, your account on ShulCloud will be billed for the appropriate tuition amount.

  • Your deposit of $200 per child, minus a $75 discount for each additional student, is non-refundable.

  • Tuition is due in full by February 2023 or you must have a payment plan in place on your account.

What if we need financial assistance?

  • PSJC does not believe that finances should be an obstacle to Jewish learning and will work with your family to find a tuition rate that meets your needs.

  • If you requested scholarship assistance on your registration form, the PSJC Treasurer will reach out to you to make arrangements. If you have concerns about the timeline, you can also contact them directly at treasurer@psjc.org

Do we need to be members to register?

  • We ask that Hebrew School families in their second year of the program and/or enrolling in 3rd grade or up, make a commitment to join the broader PSJC community as well. We strive to be a place that your whole family can find a place to have spiritual, social, and Jewish learning goals met.

  • Membership information can be found on the main PSJC website: www.psjc.org/membership

  • New members will complete an application and the office will be in touch to welcome you to the community and provide next steps.

  • Members set their own dues, though we provide guidance that reflects our operating costs. Please remember that PSJC does not believe that finances should be an obstacle to Jewish learning and community, but also that our tuition rates do not cover the full costs of our programming. We aim to meet families where they are and look forward to being partners with you in building a sustainable community.

Where can I find the weekly schedule and calendar of events?

  • The Hebrew School calendar can be found on the website below and includes a printable pdf version, integrated google website calendar, and link to add the google calendar to your personal calendar:

  • Any adjustments to the calendar will automatically be updated on the google calendar and website, so we highly recommend using those as your primary resource and the printable version for general information.

What if we cannot afford membership on top of tuition?

Members set their own dues, though we provide guidance that reflects our operating costs. We aim to meet families where they are and look forward to being partners with you in building a sustainable community.

Why is synagogue membership required?

We strive to be a place that your whole family can find a place to have spiritual, social, and Jewish learning goals met. We believe that authentic Jewish education incorporates lived Jewish experiences and that there is a benefit to learning that is immersed in a multi-generational community. Hebrew School families not only benefit from the wisdom of our faculty and staff, but also the PSJC clergy and administrative team, as well as the leadership and membership at large.

Policies & Procedures

POLICIES & PROCEDURES

For more detailed information on policies and procedures, click here.

Calendar
PSJC Hebrew School observes both the major Jewish holidays and holidays recognized by the New York City public schools (see Hebrew School calendar for more specifics). On days that the DOE operates as “remote learning” and not vacation days (such as snow days and election day), Hebrew School WILL NOT meet.

Arrival / Dismissal

Upon arrival, a staff member will greet and check in each student at the yard gate or yard door. See below for timing for regular drop-off on each day of programming.

Tuesday (preK - 2nd Grade) | 3:45PM - 5:45PM
Students may be dropped off as early as 3:45PM and wait in the yard, or the lower sanctuary in inclement weather for free play or snack until 4:00PM. PreK students who are not remaining on site for Hebrew Kitah Gan are picked up at 5:00PM. Only students enrolled in Early Arrival may be dropped off earlier.

Wednesday (3rd - 7th Grade) | 4:00PM - 6:00PM
Students may be dropped off as early as 3:50PM and wait in the yard, or the sanctuary in inclement weather. Only students enrolled in Early Arrival may be dropped off earlier.

Sunday (3rd - 7th Grade) | 9:45AM - 12:15PM
Students may be dropped off as early as 9:40AM and wait in the yard or the sanctuary, in inclement weather.

Early Arrival

Students participating in Early Arrival will remain in the yard unless the weather situation is considered dangerous. Snack will be provided.

Late Arrival

If your student arrives late and a member of the staff is not at the door to check in your student, please ensure the student enters the building and is checked in at the office. Please arrive on time when possible. The students only have a few hours each week to cover a lot of material, but more than that, we are building a kehillah, a community, and it takes all of us to do so successfully.

Dismissal

Dismissal is from the yard, unless there is rain or snow necessitating that we dismiss from inside the building. Parents are asked to wait in the yard to meet their student. Students in six and seventh grade, as well as those with written parental permission, are able to self-dismiss. If you do not wish for your child to be able to self-dismiss, you must let Aileen know. No student will be allowed to self-dismiss early without parental notification.

If you drive to PSJC to pick up your student, we ask that you be patient. Once the initial round of pick-ups have occurred, it will be safer to send students to cars. Students will wait inside the open area of the yard and be called for dismissal by the staff member at the gate. You are also welcome to come into the yard and pick your student up directly.

Snack

Parents are encouraged to send a snack for students to eat during the break. All food must be dairy / parve and must be NUT FREE.

Please make sure to feed your child before the start of programming, as well as ensure they bring a water bottle with their name on it. Snacks will only be allowed at designated times. If a child is feeling hungry and unable to participate in class, we will provide them with a snack in the school office, but we ask that you try to not drop off hungry children. We do not regularly provide snack to all students.

PSJC Hebrew School is a nut-allergy aware program. Please do not send your student to Hebrew School with a snack that contains nuts, as we have a number of students with severe allergies.

Birthday Snacks

If a parent wants to provide a special snack for an entire class, please be in touch with Aileen. The treat must be packaged with a heksher / kosher marking and be nut free. As there are many students with allergies in our program, providing advanced notice is required as it allows us to ensure an alternative treat for any dairy or gluten allergies, if you are not able to do so.

Tzedakah

Students are welcome to contribute to the Hebrew School Tzedakah Box throughout the year, but are encouraged to keep a tzedakah box at home to bring to the Tzedakah Fair in May. Our communal tzedakah collection will be donated as part of the fair.
