Receiving the Torah on Mt. Sinai
A Discussion and Exploration with Fused Glass Art Making with Aura Shahaf Woefle and Rabbi Carie Carter.
Wednesday, May 20th at 6pm (via Zoom)
In this class, taught by Rabbi Carie Carter, and artist Aura Shahaf Woelfle, participants will meet in an online Zoom meeting before Shavuot to discuss the details of how the Torah was received on Har Sinai. This extraordinary moment in our history will be discussed and then explored through creating a fused glass artwork. We will discuss and sketch the imagery that comes up in relationship to the landscape and the receiving of the Torah. After sketching ideas on paper with pencil, each student will collage their imagery onto a glass base plate, gluing down precut glass pieces to create a meaningful composition.
The glass materials for this project will be delivered before the class date in an art kit to the home of each student. If possible, the student will be asked to drop off the finished glued artwork to Aura’s studio. If this is not possible, we will be in touch to arrange pick up. The glass artworks will be fired and fused to around 1400 F in the kiln in Aura’s glass studio, and all pieces will be returned to each student’s home.
This is a special opportunity during this time to have a custom art project delivered to your home, be uplifted by the creative process, and to come together and engage in meaningful conversations about the receiving of the Torah. We hope you will join us.
The cost per person is $65 (to cover supplies and firing costs) The class is limited to 10 participants.
Contact Aura ( firstname.lastname@example.org ) to RSVP and to pay for the class.
