About the Event

What role can everyday people, those in and outside of faith communities, play in creating a caring economy and building local community power that advocates for all neighbors’ needs? How have Brooklynites done this using mutual aid networks since the Pandemic hit New York last March? Panelists Whitney Hu, founder of South Brooklyn Mutual Aid, and Shahana Hanif, interfaith activist and current City Council candidate, will reflect on their mutual aid work, its promise and limitations in the absence of government support, its challenges, and ways for those who want to continue to build a city that is more equitable and accountable to all peoples’ needs to get involved.
