The description of the coming week’s schedule follows:

Tuesday May 19th

1967 Anxiety Euphoria & Concern II   The second of the three sessions dedicated to the poetry of the Six Day War focuses on the feeling of euphoria felt by many, maybe most. The Western Wall, the Old City, Hebron and Bethlehem, were now all accessible –thus the main theme of the songs is “We are Back”. Not only that - the Israeli flag flying over the Golan Heights, promised security to the Jordan valley kibbutzim – literally messianic times.

Wednesday May 20th

1967 Anxiety Euphoria & ConcernIII   As time passes, serenity slowly replaces euphoria- poetry reflects the pain of soldiers who came home from battle changed for ever. Playwright Hanoch Levin creates his anti war pieces. They are rejected by the audiences.   With the ongoing War of Attrition, the festive mood changes and is reflected in the poetry of the time.

Thursday May 21st

Imperatives   Have you noticed how many Israeli songs as well as some poems include verbs in the imperative mode?: Go! Climb! Say! Do not say! –when putting them together in one session, we may come up with some insights about our culture and what it expects us to do or not do.
