A Shabbat of joyous singing with guest artist Eleanor Epstein

It is hard to put into words the magic of Eleanor Epstein. Eleanor treats music as midrash, exploring how the right melody can unlock the meaning behind the words quickly and directly. She believes that a strongly singing community is a strong community - and her unique and inspiring methods result in a room reverberating with song. Her effect can be profound and powerful, joyous and spiritual.

Eleanor Epstein is the director of Zemer Chai, the Jewish Chorale of the Nation’s Capital which she founded in 1976. Her choral arrangements, written for Zemer Chai, are sung by choirs throughout the United States.  She is a master teacher and a consultant to congregations, cantors, conductors and choirs, and is known for her unique approach to improving the quality and enjoyment of amateur singing.

Come if you like choral singing, community singing, or singing in the shower. Come if you were told in 3rd grade that you should just mouth the words. Come if you want to experience and understand prayer and poetry through melody. Come if you simply want to listen and learn. Those of us who know Eleanor know that an amazing weekend is in store!
